A Pain Free and Medication Free Form of Therapy

When most people think of acupuncture they imagine terrible pain because it is needles that are used to heal. For anyone who has ever undergone acupuncture they can tell you that there is little if any pain involved if the acupuncturist is qualified and experienced and knows exactly what he or she is doing. There are plenty of so-called experts that do not know what they are doing and for that reason it is important to do lots of research beforehand to find a qualified expert in the field of acupuncture. The problem of finding qualified health care practitioners is as common in the world of traditional medicine as it is in the world of natural healing.

Acupuncture is based on Chinese medicine and it is this standard model of acupuncture that is taught in most schools that specialize in acupuncture. Acupuncture has been found time and time again to bring relief to patients who are suffering from a plethora of ailments and disease such as asthma and a variety of allergies, pain that occurs in the neck, back and shoulders, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic pain, colitis, anxiety and depression, as well as many of the negative side effects associated with chemotherapy such as insomnia, nausea and vomiting and aches and pains. But the list does not end there. Acupuncture also helps those who suffer from endometriosis, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), premenstrual syndrome (PMS), menopause, insomnia, sciatica, aging, a variety of skin conditions, infertility and females who are presently undergoing IVF treatment, stress and finally it has been shown to help those who are trying to quit smoking.

It is estimated that approximately 45 million Americans suffer from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) while 23 million Americans suffer from asthma. Traditional medicine can only do so much and some people seek to find other ways to improve their conditions so they can lead happy and healthy productive lives. Acupuncture is one avenue that many people look to to get them back on the road to living a healthier life.

Acupuncture poses very few risks and is both a pain-free as well as a medication-free form of therapy. To use a brief example of a case history, a 50-year-old female went to an acupuncture center for relief due to acute back pain. She had bent over to pick something up off of the floor and suddenly felt a pop in the lower right-hand area of her back. After this happened, the woman was in severe pain and could not move for a period of close to 10 minutes. Acupuncture not only helped rid her of pain very quickly but it also helped increase her ability to move about. The patient came back for a second appointment a week later feeling a great deal better. By the third appointment her pain had completely gone away. Some licensed acupuncturists will also prescribe a Chinese herbal formula, which is much like a vitamin or nutritional supplement if then feel it is warranted. Some health conditions can be improved even faster if acupuncture treatments are accompanied by an herbal supplement. In this woman's case, an herbal supplement was given and it did what it was suppose to which was in acupuncturist-speak, "to help further release the spasm and ensure smooth flow of the affected meridians."
